World-class animal welfare

Bilde

At Norsk Kylling, animal welfare always comes first. Much has been achieved in just a few years. The sum of these efforts means significantly better welfare for millions of chickens.

2018

We switched to the Hubbard chicken breed, a bird that grows more slowly, enjoys a better life, and has documented better health.

2021

We opened a new slaughterhouse and processing facility featuring leading solutions for gentle handling and humane slaughter of chickens.

2022

We were certified according to the international animal welfare standard European Chicken Commitment (ECC).

2023

We opened a new hatchery where the chicks receive feed, water, and light immediately after hatching.

2024

Together with the farmers, we deliver world-class animal welfare

– In 2024, we delivered the best results ever on animal welfare parameters. After two challenging years with biological issues in Trøndelag, we have now experienced a year of normal operations without major disruptions. We have healthy chickens, very low mortality, and few cases of disease-related culling.

We have also seen the year-round effect of our new hatchery. Our goals before construction were ambitious, yet the hatchery has exceeded all expectations. The chickens get the best possible start in life, and we reap the benefits at every stage.
