Food production in an unstable world

The past year has been marked by unrest and uncertainty in the world. This also affects us farmers. We have made significant investments in our farms and rely on stable supply chains. When these are challenged, the vulnerability in production increases. Therefore, it is crucial that all industry players collaborate to increase the use of domestically produced feed ingredients and other inputs. A lot of positive progress has been made in this area over the past year, and this development provides both security and direction for the future. Producing food with locally sourced resources is important, both for the climate and for preparedness.

Safe food starts with healthy animals

Despite external uncertainties, we’ve had a year with smooth production. Our chickens have been healthy with minimal disease, which we do not take for granted. The threat of infection, especially from migratory birds and other factors beyond our control, is always present. Therefore, we have strict routines and high awareness around biosecurity. Disinfection showers, cleaning, sanitisation, and maintaining tidy surroundings around the farmhouse are and will continue to be a given.

Presence fosters well-being

As farmers, we know that the key to good animal welfare and profitable operations is presence. Close follow-up of the birds every single day gives us control and understanding of the operation. We feel firsthand what it’s like to be responsible for a large-scale production 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round. We know what it takes to produce safe food, but also what it gives.

We are proud to be part of the value chain at Norsk Kylling. It’s an actor that takes responsibility for people, animals, and the environment. Poultry production can be challenging at times, but the support from Norsk Kylling and great colleagues ensures that we solve the challenges together. That means a lot.

Farmers of the year

Each year, we pay special tribute to farmers who have excelled through targeted improvement efforts, strong production results, and a forward-thinking willingness to learn. Farmers from Singsås, Beitstad, Spongdal, and Rognes were named the Farmers of the Year in 2024. Development is key, whether it's related to operations or animal welfare. This year’s farmers stand out for their learning and improvement, and we are very proud to have such great ambassadors for Norsk Kylling.
